The Operating Backbone
Most organizational problems do not sit neatly inside one function. A budget issue may also be a people issue. A systems issue may also be a governance issue. A vendor issue may also be an ownership, accountability, or decision-making issue. The operating backbone is the structure that lets an organization see those connections and act on them before they become crises.
I do not build process for its own sake. I look for the point where risk, compliance, handoffs, decisions, and user adoption meet - then design systems that people can actually use.
01 - Financial Discipline
Can the organization see cash, commitments, budget variance, funding restrictions, revenue assumptions, and decision tradeoffs clearly enough to act?
02 - People Infrastructure
Are payroll, benefits, onboarding, offboarding, policies, roles, performance expectations, and employee support systems clear and durable?
03 - Systems Visibility
Do the tools, data flows, documentation, access controls, dashboards, and vendor workflows make work easier - or are they hiding risk?
04 - Governance Readiness
Can the board, auditors, counsel, funders, buyers, or leadership team understand what happened, why it happened, and what decision is needed?
05 - Strategy & Executive Decision Rhythm
Is there a reliable cadence for turning messy inputs into priorities, decisions, owners, and follow-through?
